Abstract

This section presents the views of several individuals on whether Chinese news anchors should only use the Mandarin dialect. According to Li Zhenzhong, Putonghua should be the nation's unified language because it facilitates an effective exchanges between different regions. Mo Ke expresses apprehension about the effect dialect-speaking television (TV) programs in protecting local languages. Yu Wenda argues in favor of a diversified urban language system.
