Abstract

The article reports that the Shanghai Composite Index, which monitors both yuan-denominated Class A shares and foreign currency Class B shares, fell 5.4% to 3411.49 on March 27, 2008, the lowest level since April 9, 2007. According to the author, after posting near doubles in 2007, it lost 35% in 2008. He adds that the decline was due to concerns about PetroChina's share price and Baoshan Iron & Steel's low earnings. PteroChina also declined 8.3% to 16.99 yuan, the article reports.
