Abstract
- This article discusses women's studies and the role of feminist bookstores in several states in the U.S. in the development of women's studies. The history of women's studies have been developed with attention to institutionalization, activism, location and publication histories. The author identifies feminist bookstores as public sites that strategically contributed to the development of women's studies. These bookstores have affected women's studies movement nationally and have been influence by one another through their collective participation in a transnational network of feminist bookstores.
