Abstract

The author considers whether a planned April 24, 2008 strike by members of Great Britain's National Union of Teachers is a good idea. The injustice of below-inflation pay raises approved by the British government for teachers, especially in light of spending by British Members of Parliament (MPs), is admitted. The author notes the failure of teachers' strikes in the 1980s and argues that a loss of parental respect is a high a price to pay for industrial action.
