Abstract
- The article reports on the effort of the Imperial College London to update its 140-year-old math problem in London, England. The university has updated the math problem to make it applicable to modern engineering use. According to Darren Crowdy, chairman in applied mathematics, he extended the formula used in solving an area known as conformal mapping, a theoretical tool used by mathematicians, engineers and scientists to translate mathematical information about a complex shape to a circular shape. Such method is used in neuroscience to visualize the complicated structure of the grey matter in the human brain. He made additions to the Schwarz-Christoffel formula to be used in more complicated shapes.
