Abstract

The article reviews what is known about the pathophysiology of septic acute kidney injury. This disease represent a unique form of acute renal disease: hyperemic acute renal failure, at least in patients with a hyperdynamic circulation. Evidence suggests that urinalysis is not effective in diagnosis and prognosis of septic kidney injury. The authors also discuss the limitations and strengths of evidences on septic acute renal failure as well as areas which requires further investigation.
