Abstract

The article reports on the five-year, $1-billion expansion of the New York Public Library (NYPL) in New York City, with the goal of doubling its number of unique users. Herb Scher, NYPL director of public relations, notes that the improvement plan involves a renovation of the Humanities and Social Sciences Library. NYPL President Paul LeClerc says the world of information and ideas has changed profoundly, and the needs of library users have changed in response.
