Talking makes better sense than walking.

The author considers teacher salaries in Great Britain in light of a planned April 2008 teachers strike. It is reported that British teachers' salaries increased 19 percent in real terms between 1997 and 2008. Several other professional benefits that have been gained by teachers in that period are also discussed such as the addition of teaching assistants to many classrooms and protections for lesson planning time. The author argues that teachers should stage negotiations rather than a strike.
