Abstract
- The article presents a response to an article written by Alice Dreger in which J. Michael Bailey‘s book, "The Man Who Would Be Queen," is evaluated. Specific focus is given the ensuing backlash to the book from the transgender community. The author presents her disagreements with Bailey's book itself, as well as Dreger's findings about Bailey's book. Topics include Bailey's research methodology, her perception that Bailey vilified certain transwomen, the complaint to the Illinois Board of Examiners of Psychology, charges of Bailey's ethics violations, Bailey's alleged relationships with his subjects as well as his research assistants. Also discussed is the author's personal experiences and how such experiences inform her understanding of Bailey's book.
