Abstract

The article reports that the U.S. Justice Department will subpoena the Swiss bank UBS AG for the names of wealthy American clients who may have used its services to evade income taxes. Bradley Birkenfeld, a former UBS employee, has already been indicted for doing so. The subpoena is a threat to UBS's private banking operation, which is one of its most profitable businesses.
