Abstract: The author considers the April 24, 2008 British National Union of Teachers pay strike. The British government's approach to school improvement is characterized as punitive and detrimental to children and teachers alike. The author offers anecdotes about several colleagues who have left the teaching profession as a result of pay conditions and argues that the NUT strike will be an effective means of raising public awareness and expressing the frustration of British educators.
