Abstract
- The article reports on the financial performance of Chinese oil companies in the first quarter of 2008. It states that China Petroleum and Chemical Corp. (Sinopec) posted losses from its principal refining operations. According to the article, the reason why major oil refiners are experiencing losses is because they are not permitted to raise prices when importing crude oil. It is inferred that the Central Government has offered state subsidies to refiners to offset their losses, as of April 1, 2008.
