Abstract

The article discusses the need for corporate information technology (IT) departments to focus less on technology and more on the informational and data requirements of end users. Technology is only a means to an end, which should be serving the firm's business needs. The author describes how IT's focus evolved from being "customer-centric" to "technology-centric," and discusses concerns raised by a 2007 roundtable with twelve chief information officers from organizations representing manufacturing, services, and government.
