Abstract

It is easy to miss the mechanical birds in the window, with flapping wings of scrap metal and wood and tail feathers of flattened spoons. The two-foot-long threaded bolt also blends in with its surroundings, but the 24-foot-long BMX bicycle hanging from the ceiling is a good hint that there is more to this hardware store than hammers and drills. At Crest Hardware, a quasi institution on Metropolitan Avenue near Lorimer Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, more than 100 works of art, many of them hardware-themed, are on display alongside the workaday items like nails, nuts and bolts. They are part of the Crest Hardware Art Show, which is in its seventh year. It began June 7 and runs through the end of July. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
