A Brooklyn man who was being questioned in his apartment by police detectives about a forged check was fatally shot on Saturday morning by one of the detectives after he threatened them with a knife, the police said. The man, Darryl Battle, 20, was suspected of trying to cash a forged check for $1,003.50 last month at a Chase bank branch on East 79th Street in Manhattan and left his identification behind, according to the police.
