Abstract

The author discusses how each U.S. presidential candidate, Senators Barack Obama and John McCain resolves the Iraq problem. He focuses on Obama's Iraq policy and sees his opposition to the surge as a problem because it undermines his argument that he has better judgement on national security. He also cites Obama's cancellation of a visit to U.S. soldiers wounded in Iraq as adding to his growing reputation for arrogance. The author said that his biggest mistake was missing the opportunity to show he can admit a mistake about the success of the surge.
