Abstract

The article offers information on the Bothwell Parish Church in Scotland. Archibald, the third earl of Douglas and Lord of Galloway, acquired the Barony of Bothwell through marriage in 1362. In the late 14th century, Archibald petitioned the Pope to have the parish church of Bothwell elevated to collegiate status. The earl added a new choir to the existing parish church after the petition was granted. The parish church is believed to be erected in the late 12th century based on the stone fragments sculpted in Norman-Romanesque tradition found during the restoration of the church in 1933.
