Abstract
- The article presents a study which aims to review available literature that suggests that prolonged strenuous exercise (PSE) can cause transient reduction in the right (RV) and left ventricular (LV) functions. It provides analysis on major mechanisms that are associated with the changes in the systolic and diastolic functions after having PSE, which include myocardial damage, cardiac autonomic modulation, changes in LV pressure gradients as well as alterations in the myocardial relaxation. In addition, it concludes that exercise-induced cardiac fatigue after PSE can reduce both systolic and diastolic functions of the LV.
