Abstract
- The authors reflect on the use of visual representations in helping middle school students understand mathematics focusing on fractions. It notes that students learning and ideas on mathematical communication are supported by these representations, which help them organize their thinking and make connections among mathematical concepts. According to the authors, teachers should introduced their students to a variety of representations that can take full advantage of the benefits of each form.
