Abstract

The article presents a study which investigated the effect of pessary use on the size of the genital hiatus in women wearing a pessary for pelvic organ prolapse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The study describes the characteristics of patients who continue using pessary and assessed changes in pelvic floor symptoms. It notes the assessment conducted on 90 women seeking nonsurgical management of symptomatic prolapse. It indicates that pessary use decreases the size of genital hiatus.
