Abstract

Students at Public School 92 in the East Tremont section of the Bronx had a party last year when they were awarded an A by the Department of Education. But on Tuesday, parents picking up their students on Clinton Avenue shook their heads in shock when they learned that their school was the only one in the city to fall from an A to an F. While elementary English scores on state standardized tests rose 7 percentage points and math scores rose about 9 citywide, P.S. 92 had a 10-point drop in English and a 2-point drop in math. The progress students make year to year is the biggest factor in the department's new report card system. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
