Abstract
- The article reports on the entry of Cray Inc. into the low-end computer business through the introduction of its new $25,000 computer that uses chips from Intel Corp. and Microsoft Corp.'s Windows operating system. The computer is designed to handle technical chores that are too large for personal computers but do not need the resources of supercomputers. Cray's move is a sign of the big changes going on in the technical-computing market in which some customers are buying a new class of cheaper servers to handle smaller technical work.
