Abstract

The article reports on the problems of General Atomics Aeronautical Systems in fulfilling a number of contracts for the U.S. Department of Defense. Poor past performance at the company was cited as a key reason for its failed joint bid with prime contractor Lockheed Martin for the U.S. Navy's future maritime surveillance drone. Lockheed Martin/General Atomics protested the U.S. Navy's decision in late April 2008 to award the $1.6-billion Broad Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS) design contract to Northrop Grumman.
