Abstract

The article reports on the Chinese government's plans to revive China's stock market. Central Huijin Investment Co. will increase its shareholdings in the nation's three largest banks, Industrial & Commercial Bank of China Ltd., Bank of China Ltd., and China Construction Bank Corp. Other government entities will also increase their equity investments in listed companies that they control. The Shanghai Composite Index has declined 70% from 2007's all time high of 6124.40 to September 18, 2008's low point of 1816.
