Abstract

The article presents a study that aims to determine the effects of the antioxidant resveratrol regarding the functions of human chondrocytes in osteoarthritis (OA). The study shows that resveratrol protects against induced catabolic effects and prevents the chondrocyte apoptosis through its inhibition of mitochondrial membrane depolarization adenosine triphosphate (ATP) depletion. It concludes that resveratrol may protect against oxidant injury and apoptosis.
