Abstract

The article reports on the response of Chinese investors on the move of the government to launch a share-purchase plan to support its stock market in September 2008. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index increased by 18%. The investors are said to have shown distrust of the government's plan and are seeking for more support. Authorities stated that the three biggest Chinese banks have purchased two million yuan-denominated class A shares in each institution.
