Abstract

The article presents an experiment on the molecular-shape-selectivity behavior of zeolites. A simple gas chromatography setup using a zeolite column was applied on the experiment. It states that the adsorption and temperature programmed desorption test of hydrocarbons can be monitored through flame ion detector (FID) signals of gas chromatography (GC). As a result, the hydrocarbon isomers adsorption on zeolite framework structures can be realized. It also aids students to observe the shape selectivity principle of the mineral through the measurement of hexane isomers sorption behavior.
