Abstract

The article focuses on how Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, president of Iran, does not have as much power as Ali Khamenei, the supreme ruler of Iran. The author argues that removing Ahmadinejad from power will not lessen the foreign policy conflict which exists between Iran, the West, and the West's allies. The author believes that the situation will remain the same as long as the structure of power that supports Khamenei remains unchanged. Additional topics include the policy differences between Iran's past presidents, an examination of the term "sultanism," and the imbalance of power in Iran.
