Abstract: The article presents information about developments in the digitalization of library resources in the 20th and 21st centuries. Written material is being digitized at a rate of 800 to 1300 pages per hour, so that libraries in Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the U.S. are able to offer scanned images of archived material to Internet users. An academic study by Swiss historian Monika Dommann is referenced, which discusses the use and regulation of copy machines and their social impact.
