Abstract: The article offers information about subject indexing in library and information science. A software trend enabling users to contribute content attributes to keywords is compared with developments in subject indexing, which uses systematically assigned controlled terms and a standardized notational system. Related topics such as faceted navigation and classification systems, including Dewey-Decimal Classification (DDC), are discussed.
