Abstract

The article focuses on software technology development since 1984. It states that there are three clusters of software technologies: Basic technologies that contribute to broad trends and disciplines, Technology concepts and methodologies that combine the underlying methods that many different industries and products use, and consolidated technologies that are built on concepts and offer ready-to-use technical solutions. It comments on the impacts that technologies have had on industries and products, and mentions that some technologies have a longer maturation period than others, and provides as an example computer security and its integration into computer software architecture.
