- The article reports that balloting will close on November 3, 2008 for proposed pay strikes by the National Union of Teachers (NUT). It notes that the union is dissatisfied with pay increases for teachers which fall below the rate of inflation. Union general secretary Christine Blower comments on possible effects to the British educational system of failing to pay teachers a fair salary.
