Abstract
- The article reports that wide financial deficit and the drop in metal prices pose a threat to South Africa to be affected by the global financial crisis. The current-account deficit of the country was hardly hit when the trade deficit in September 2008 reached $729 million. Trevor Manuel, Finance Minister of South Africa said their economy will be protected from the effects of the global crisis. African National Congress head Jacob Zuma shares that their economic policies and financial discipline helped them absorb the impact of the financial crisis.
