Abstract

The article presents a pathogenic and genetic analysis of Macrophomina phaseolina (Tassi) Goid on different hosts. Pathogenicity and AFLP (amplified fragment length polymorphisms) were used to analyze the diversity patterns of the fungus Macrophomina phaseolina isolates coming from Mexico and other countries. Species of Zea mays, Phaseolus vulgaris, Glycine max, Arachis hypogea, Sesamum indicum, and Cicer arietinum were investigated. Results show that sesame and soybean were mostly affected by M. phaseolina and maize the lowest. The AFLP reveals a great genetic diversity in M. phaseolina.
