Abstract
- The article reports on the announcement by Sigma-Aldrich Fine Chemicals (SAFC) that it is adapting its business model to the significantly changing business environment. A fundamental change is the shift by big pharmaceutical companies away from blockbuster pharma products toward lower-volume, specialty drugs. Pharma companies stand to lose $55 billion in sales during the next five years as a slew of drugs go off patent. SAFC says it is looking to embrace regulatory challenges as an opportunity to assist its customers.
