Abstract

The article explores the personal and ideological links between Prussian traveler and scientist Alexander von Humboldt and United States President Thomas Jefferson. It discusses how both men were able to have their ideas reach large audiences, globally and historically, based on their social status and that they used this platform to promote novel ideas for societal change, social improvement and scientific progress in the United States. The article explores how Jefferson and Humboldt participated in a transatlantic dialogue that served as the foundation of the international network they believed would be essential to facilitating the changes they advocated.
