Abstract
- In this article we present a reading of the works of Giambattista Vico and Eric Voegelin, whose aim is to underline important commonalities among them, in particular regarding their approaches to the theme of foundationalism. For both authors the transcendence of the ultimate meaning of foundations can only be expressed through a symbolic kind of language, which rather than conceptualizing, evocates or alludes, therefore leaving always unfinished their representation. This kind of vision is rooted in similar conceptions of the human sciences that, contrary to some reductive tendencies in Modernity, intend to recover both the historicity of human condition and its deepness. It is exactly in these respectful attitudes towards the contingency and transcendence of politics that dwells the most valuable meaning of Vico and Voegelin's legacies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
