Abstract

The article presents a report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the prevalence of influenza in the United States between September 28 and November 29, 2008. Influenza activity was reported to remain low in the U.S. during the time period. Antigenic characterization by the CDC and antiviral resistance of influenza virus isolates are discussed. State-specific activity levels and outpatient illnesses are also included. Pediatric hospitalizations and mortality associated with influenza are also discussed.
