Tacrolimus formulations: UK MHRA issues safety update.

The article reports on a drug safety update from the British Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) which says that even if Prograf and Advagraf both contain tacrolimus they are not directly interchangeable because their formulations are differ. The update comes following reports of medication errors with the two agents in European countries. It was noted that temporary changes are being made to the packaging of outer Advagraf and further changes to the labelling are planned by April 2009.
