Abstract: This section offers news briefs related to aeronautics and space technology in the Americas. Total 2008 employment at Boeing edged up to 162,191 at year-end from 160,738 at the end January 2008. DE Technologies was awarded a $6.9-million U.S. Navy contract to continue development of a directed-energy warhead. The Navy has decided where to base its new all-jet Boeing P-8A Multi-mission Maritime Aircraft that will replace turboprop-powered Lockheed Martin P-3 patrol aircraft.
