Abstract
- The article focuses on the downsizing of temporary manufacturing workers in Japan. As demand for Japanese goods continues to fall and as electronics companies and auto makers consider moving production to low-cost centers, manufacturers will need to cut more into permanent workers. Public officials call for the overhaul of the temp-worker system and demand companies rely on cash reserves to maintain employment.
