Abstract

The article looks at agreements made by gay male couples regarding sexual activity outside of the relationship, focusing on how the process of making these agreements varies according to the couple's serostatus. Differences in the agreements made in concordant-negative, concordant-positive, and discordant relationships are reviewed. 30 percent of the men interviewed reported breaking their agreements, but only half of them disclosed this information to their partners. The authors note that HIV prevention efforts for gay male couples need to consider both serostatus and relationship quality issues.
