Abstract

The article reports on a research of ancient sediments in South Africa. Researchers investigate the sedimentary layers of the Karoo Basin, looking for clues about the Permian extinction. It suggests that the largest mass extinction in Earth's history might have been a prolonged event that stretched over hundreds of thousands of years.
