Abstract

The article explores the role of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in addressing international maritime safety and crime. IMO implements principles under the principal agent theory. Various international commercial organizations and professional associations observe IMO decision making and propose regulations and enforcement approaches. The efforts of IMO to promote international maritime safety are explored.
