Abstract

Human Toxocara canis infections are seen all over the world, particularly in regions where moderate and tropical climates are dominant. Dogs are reservoirs in disease transmission. Toxocariasis is a parasitic disease due to Toxocara canis and Toxocara cati, which live in the intestines of cats and dogs. In this article, we report a 12-year-old girl who presented with complaints of abdominal pain and edema of the eyes and face and who had immunoglobulin E level of 4540 kU/L, white blood cell count (WBC) of 21500/mm³, and 81% eosinophilia in peripheric blood smear, who was diagnosed as toxocariasis. We stress with this case report that parasitic diseases can manifest with variable clinical scenes and are rarely seen. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
