Abstract

The Columbia Non-neutral Toms (CNT) is a simple stellarator being used to study non-neutral plasmas. At low neutral pressures these plasmas are pure electron plasmas. In this paper some studies of the equilibrium and transport of these plasmas will be described. An axial density variation has now been measured that is roughly the size predicted numerically. The equilibrium of plasmas created by an off-axis emitter have properties that are consistent with global thermal equilibrium. Sudden jumps in emission current have been observed that correspond to jumps in transport between two stable equilibrium states. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
