Abstract

The article discusses the need for U.S. leaders to design effective policies for the increasing threats to human health, food production, environmental quality, and ecological well-being. It states that it is essential for reliable and timely information regarding global environmental stress. The article notes that the effects of climate change will be felt across the globe, and are likely to present unique and hard-to-predict outcomes. The two developments stated to facilitate the collection of more and better data are new technologies and techniques to capture data more efficiently and effectively, and second, the demonstration of true value for environmental investments. The other issues discussed include controlling nitrogen pollution, carbon storage, and tracking wildlife population.
