Abstract: Information on surgery-related symposia for the 16th European Digestive Surgery (EDS) during the United European Gastroenterology Week 2008 held on October 18-22 in Vienna, Austria is presented. One symposium focuses on the developments in the pathophysiology and the diagnosis, prevention and management of diverticulitis. Another one highlights the controversies in gastric cancer. Also included is the symposium on neuroendocrine pancreatic tumors, with speakers including professor Dalle Fave.
