Abstract
- Living with roommates can be fun -- and a source of relentless torment. How else to describe coming home to find a note, written by the same person who greeted you cheerfully that morning, accusing you of borrowing a sweater you've never seen or berating you for not buying toilet paper? Oonagh O'Hagan encountered so many such notes from various roommates in London over the years that she began collecting them to document the absurdity of what she calls ''not completely optional'' cohabitation. The result is ''I Lick My Cheese and Other Real Notes From the Roommate Frontlines'' (Abrams Image, $15.95), a compendium that includes gems like ''I hate you more than life itself'' and ''Why is my bed damp?'' along with Ms. O'Hagan's clever annotations. The book is sure to elicit laughter and some painful memories. Anyone currently tormented can find sympathy and a place to vent at the companion site, roommatesanonymous.com.
