Abstract

The article discusses Wartburg College, which carries nearly $100 million in debt. The school's debt load, which is twice the amount that it takes in annually from tuition and other sources of revenue, is threatening the school's accreditation and alarming some of its employees. The author examines the tensions that the institution's financial situation has created with people living in the city of Waverly, Iowa, where it is located. The ability of the school to meet debt payments in the future is examined.
